  Character Study      Nicholas  Smart young man, protagonist. Anxious to enter into the lumber room Good planner. He plans to explore the room He puts frog in his breakfast and refuses to eat He is punished and not allowed to go to the trip and forced to stay at home. Imaginative, creative thinker to create a story around the tapestry portrait. He takes each opportunity to use against his aunt        His sense of humor makes the story a great success.   Literary Devices   The text is full of childhood experience of the Nicholas. The entire narrations is about a days of Nicholas at home with his aunt and his secret visit to the lumber room. It is a lifelong memory for Nicholas. The story goes on with 3 rd person narration . It is divided into four complete parts. The exposition: It says about the family of Nicholas. He and his cousins under the care of their strict aunt. The story begins with a breakfast which is refused by Nicholas as there is frog in his breakfast. Nicholas makes impossible things possible. But his behavior  provokes his aunt, he faces punishments.   All the speech of Nicholas is good and full of scientific vocabularie s, but Aunt’s speech is simple and primitive. Critical Analysis The opening scene gives a different impression on Nicholas, compared to other children. Nicholas is not only different, but also more interesting. His complain on his breakfast is quite unbelievable, but shows his creative mind. “wholesome bread and milk,” Nicholas lives in strict discipline atmosphere, there the adults know the meaning of “wholesome bread” for the children. “Older and wiser and better people” Nicholas shows the firm mind set of the adults. But it could be easily disrupted because Nicholas shows them. It is possible to see a frog in the breakfast for he very casually takes a frog from his garden puts in to his food. He shows it is not too hard for the wild life to enter and disturb the discipline world. Nicholas is brave to point out their mistakes. Nicholas does not give priority to the elder’s opinion, but he is well content to point out their mistakes Nicholas boy - cousin, girl- cousin and “quite uninteresting younger brother” All
