A Short summary Chapters 1 to 6 Silas Marner a linen weaver  lived and worked near the village of Raveloe.  he had come to Raveloe from Lantern Yard.  Fifteen years before he was a pale young man with large, shorts sighted brown eyes.  he lived alone and never spoke to anyone.  Occasionally, he was taken ill with a kind of fit and be unconscious of anything going around him.  Once he lived in a town and had been an important member of a religious sect in Lantern Yard.  His close friend Williams thought himself wiser and better than his  fellows.  Silas had been engaged for some months to marry Sarah.  one day after Silas had had one of his fits at a prayer meeting, William said that this might be caused by the evil in his soul.  Then Silas was falsely accused of stealing the funds of his congregation while administering help to the sick deacon.  The money is discovered in Silas' house.  Silas' best friend framed him and he was pronounced guilty. There was a king of England called Lear.  He had ruled his land wisely.  But now he was old and felt that it was time to pass the kingdom to younger hands.  Lear had no sons but had three daughters, Goneril, Regan and Cordelia.  King Lear wanted to divide the kingdom among them.  Before telling them of his decision he sent for them and asked them whether they truly love him. Goneril his eldest daughter  answered that she loved him more than words could say.  The king was happy and gave a part of his kingdom.  He asked the same question to Regan, she too like her sister answered the same insincere way as Goneril.  The father was happy and gave the another part of his kingdom.  He then asked the same question his last and beloved daughter Cordelia, she knowing her sisters' pretense for the kingdom.  She answered honestly that she loved as she should neither  more nor less.   The Duke of Milan called Prospero was a wise and learned man, more interested in books. He left the care of political affairs to his brother Antonio. But Antonio was jealous of his Brother’s position as Duke.So,he and Alonso the king Naples decided to send Prospero far away from his country. One dark, stormy Night Prospero was taken prisoner and carried down to the sea shore with little daughter Miranda, and were; put into an old boat which neither Sails nor oars. Antonio was certain that the boat would sink and they would be drowned. Alonso’s  supporter  Gonzalo put food, water, warm clothes and some Good Books into the boat.
