A Short Summary of Julius Caesar

A short summary of Julius Caesar

There lived In Rome a great soldier and leader Julius Caesar. He was famous all over Europe. He was admired by his people as a national hero. Caesar’s friends and companions were afraid of his increasing greediness. They suspected that he wished to become king of the Roman people in order to gain absolute power in affairs of state. Brutus a close friend of Caesar had high and noble morals and a very genuine desire to do what was best for Rome. At the same time, Caesar showed signs of greediness and ambition. Brutus was greatly troubled.

Cassius was member of the Roman party was jealous of Caesar had been influenced by his friends to persuade Brutus to join them and become their leader. So Cassius poisoned Brutus mind against Caesar. It was decided that Caesar should die and they made a perfect plan and invited him to the capitol. Caesar agreed to come but was stopped by his wife Calpurnia as she had a fearful and unusual dreams. But Cassius sent Decius to persuade Ceaser and brought him to the capitol. There he was stabbed by all his trusted fiends including his most beloved friend Brutus. He fell dying on the ground.

The death of Ceasar had taken the Roman completely by surprise.  Cassius choose Brutus as their leader. Brutus as their leader calmed the anxious people by saying that the ambition’s debt was paid. They intended no harm to any Romans.

Meanwhile Mark Antony who had remained faithful to Caesar came to capitol knelt beside Caesar’s body and spoke to him in bitter sorrow. He went on to swear that he would revenge Caesar’s murder and would have no pity for his enemies. Then they slowly carried the body to the market place.
At the market place, Brutus spoke with honest sincerity and justified the death of Caesar. They may not have understood him but they admired him and cheered him. Then Mark Antony came slowly in the market place carrying Caesar’s bleeding body. Antony gave his funeral speech. Antony went on to say that he could stir their hearts to hatred and anger but pretended that he did not wish to do so. Now the people moved wholly on his side and turned against to Brutus and his companions. Mark Antony was satisfied as his first plan had worked.

Brutus and Cassius left Italy for Greece. A year later they were camped with their Army at Sardis and Antony and Octavius with their Army were near the town of Philippi. At Sardis Brutus was unhappy as he received news that his beloved wife was dead. Cassius was jealous of Brutus’ leadership.
Brutus and Cassius discussed plans for the battle. They didn’t agree over the plan. At last, Cassius unwillingly agreed with Brutus marched to Philippi. The field of battle at Philippi was very confused. because both armies wore the same uniform and it was difficult to distinguished friends from enemies. Then there was jealously and ill-will in Brutus’ camp instead of agreement and unity.
The fight went on. In despair, Cassius killed himself with his own sword. Brutus felt hopeless thinking all was lost and escaped Mark Antony told to treat all the prisoners with kindness. At last, Brutus too was found dead killed by his own hand and with his own sword. All his hope failed. Mark Antony stood up and told his soldiers to carry Brutus body for an honorable burial.
