SIMILIES in Romeo and Juliet

  Simile is a figure of speech that make a comparison between two different things to highlight the similarities. Examples for Similes in Romeo and Juliet: 1. “is love a tender thing?   It is too rough too rude, too boisterous and it prick like a thorn.” (i.iv) Romeo laments, love has been portrayed as a harmful experience.   It pricks the feelings of the individual like a thorn prickles and hurts human skin.   The readers can understand Romeo’s feeling of love before meeting Juliet. 2.  “O speak again bright angel, for thou art as glorious to this night, being o’er my head;  As in a winged messenger of heaven.”  (ii.ii) This shows Romeo’s admiration and affection for Juliet.   In Romeo’s view Juliet lights up the night with her bright appearance like celestial being brightens the heavens with its beauty.   3.“I’ll warrant him, as gentle as a lamb.” The Nurse compliments about Romeo and compare his gentle behavior to a lamb. ...

 What is Foreshadow ?  Give the way it has been used in Romeo and Juliet with Examples? one of the Dramatic technique stimulate the audience's interest provides certain hints about events which could appear Dialogues provides clues about the tragic events later. The use of OXYMORON in Romeo and Juliet: The phrase and the sentences are tow types of oxymoron.  An oxymoron combines words that are contradictory to each other in order to express an idea whether humorous or tragic that seems to too profound, too big, to express in normal language. Few examples for oxymoron from Romeo and Juliet: 1. “then, o brawling love, o loving hate” Expressed by Romeo when he was rejected by Rosaline.  Benvolio advises him to forget Rosaline.  LOVING HATE expresses his inner agony, love and hate can coexist simultaneously; unrequited love can breed hatred.  It completely exposes Romeo’s emotions. 2. “feather of lead, bright smoke, cold fire sick health still-waking, sleep that is not what it.” Exposes the condition of Romeo.  Love is like a feather very light.  But after the rejection it feels like a heavy lead.  Sick health denotes he is sick as he was rejected by Rosaline. 3. “Good night, good night.  Parting is such swee...

My last Duchess   - Robert Browning   My last Duchess is a dramatic monologue and it conveys the opinion of a wealthy man as he shows a marriage broker a painting of his late wife, the name given to the portrait is “My last Duchess” Lines 1-4 The speaker is a man of means, a Duke no less of Ferrara a town in Italy. He is about to show off an unusual painting to an anonymous guest. But later it becomes clear that the listener is an envoy (marriage broker representing another Aristocrat. He shows a portrait. The artist name is Fra Pandolf, the Fra meaning the brother which links the artist to monk hook and there were no connections between the Artist and the Duchess.
