Mr. Birling’s speeches on war, his fake confidence of peace creates awareness among the audience about the critical war situation. They know how wrong Mr. Birling.

Mr. Birling room; - there is a tension as the whole family is found in this room each one’s involvement in Eva’s death is brought out surprise comes in order to the audience.

Inspector adds tension. He gives information about the girl and his last speech was like a sermon, “we are responsible for each other.

Tension and Timing

The ending gives a relief when it is discovered that the inspector wasn’t real and that no girl had died in the infirmary. This realize their tension but the final call announces that a real inspector is on his way for an inquiry as there is a death of a young girl. This dramatically increases the tension.
